Eye creams are not a quick fix. Some people are under the impression that by using an eye cream their wrinkles will disappear completely. I’m sorry to say, eye creams do not work this way.
If you want a quick fix, Botox is going to be your go too for dramatically smoothing the skin around the eye area. Here’s the good news, eye creams do help keep the eye area moisturized and prevents wrinkles in the long run.
The thin delicate eye area around the eyes are the first places to show fatigue and signs of aging. Fine lines and wrinkles are caused by the weakening of collagen and elastin fibers. Dark circles are usually a sign of pooled blood under the eyes. When tiny veins break under the eye-area and leak, it appears as bruising or dark circles. A healthy, strong skin matrix is key to supporting the capillaries and eliminating dark circles.
Fluid build up is a common source of puffiness under the eyes. To eliminate this, under-eye fluid buildup must be stimulated to flow away from the area. Because skin around our eyes have very few oil glands and are less than half the thickness of the rest of our skin, it requires special care.
To truly benefit from eye creams, one needs to spend time exfoliating two to three times a week around the eye area with a gentle exfoliant. This removes dead skin cells which in turn gives eye creams a chance at working.
I love Skin Medica’s AHA/BHA exfoliating cleanser and exfoliating cream. The cleanser gently scrubs away dead skin cells with jojoba beads, alpha and beta hydroxy acids. The AHA/BHA (Figure 1) cream gives additional exfoliation which creates brightness, tone and texture for smooth skin. Both products are good for all skin types.
