HALO™ Laser

Asset 1

When it comes to skin rejuvenation, the HALO™ laser has become so popular that patients refer to its results as the “HALO™ glow.” With convenient treatments at Twin Ports Dermatology, you can experience that glow for yourself!

What is HALO™ by Sciton®?

HALO™ is a hybrid fractional laser created by Sciton® for skin rejuvenation. It combines an ablative and non-ablative laser wavelength to treat your skin’s surface and deeper layers. This second-generation device can be customized to each patient’s unique skin and needs, minimizing recovery and maximizing results. HALO™ can treat various common skin concerns, including wrinkles, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and more.

How Does HALO™ Laser Resurfacing Work?

Before starting your HALO™ treatment, we’ll apply a topical numbing cream to your skin to ensure your comfort. Then your Twin Ports provider will move the handheld device over the treatment area. Depending on the size of the area, the treatment typically takes an hour or less. You’ll feel the warmth from the laser, and some patients describe the sensation as prickling or a rubber band snap.

HALO™ uses two wavelengths, both ablative and non-ablative, to provide comprehensive treatment. Since it’s a fractional laser, the laser is broken into multiple small beams that cause pinpoints of controlled damage without harming the surrounding skin. The laser works in multiple ways to rejuvenate your skin.

First, by partially ablating the top layers, the laser clears away dull, sun-damaged skin on the surface to make way for healthy new skin. Second, the laser heats up the dermis to trigger a healing response. This prompts your skin to produce more collagen and elastin to heal the superficial damage. Increased collagen has an anti-aging effect, leaving your skin firmer, smoother, and more youthful.

With two wavelengths that can be adjusted for each patient’s needs, HALO™ is safe for all skin types. Your provider can adjust the intensity of the laser depending on your skin tone, the conditions you’re treating, and your comfort level.

Almost anyone who wants to rejuvenate their skin is a good candidate for HALO™ laser treatments. We offer HALO™ for the face, neck, and body. For patients seeking an even gentler treatment option, we may recommend BBL™ HERO by Sciton®.

What Results Will I See With HALO™?

Patients often start to see their HALO™ Glow within one week. As your skin repairs itself and clears away the old, damaged surface cells, you’ll see a more radiant complexion and clearer skin. Some of the results patients see with HALO™ include:

  • More even skin tone and texture
  • Fewer fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduced hyperpigmentation and dark spots
  • Faded acne scars
  • Brighter complexion

Most patients only need one or two HALO™ treatments for optimal results. You can maintain your HALO™ Glow with follow-up treatments as needed.

Is There Any Downtime With HALO™ Treatments?

Most patients resume their usual activities within a day or two after HALO™. After the treatment, your skin may be red, tender, and slightly swollen. Some peeling and flaking are also normal as your body removes the damaged skin to make way for healthy new growth. These side effects should start to subside within a few days.

We’ll give you aftercare instructions for managing any discomfort and helping your skin heal. Patients should use gentle skincare products, moisturize often, and avoid sun exposure during recovery.

  • Consult with esthetician for in-depth review of treatment process.
  • Schedule treatment, accordingly, taking into consideration work and social schedule.
  • Stop use of over-the-counter prescription retinol products 1 week prior to treatment.
  • The treated area may be extremely warm for 12-24 hours after the treatment. Cold compresses may provide comfort during this time. The use of mineral water spray may help to provide some relief and moisture to the skin.
  • Pinpoint Bleeding may occur. This can last for one to two days. Gently dab the skin with damp gauze to treat.
  • Redness is normal and expected. Redness generally increases in intensity for the first few days after treatment, peaking on day three. Redness can persist for up to seven days. Allow skin to heal. Use gentle cleansers and keep skin moisturized and out of the sun.
  • Days Immediately after treatment, swelling is common and expected. The use of a cold compress and antihistamines will help to relieve the swelling. Sleeping in an upright position may help minimize swelling. Swelling will be more prevalent the morning after treatment, specifically in the eyes, and may last two to four days.
  • MENDS (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) will appear on the treated skin two to three days after treatment as tiny dark spots with a bronzed appearance. Treated tissue is working its way out of the body as new fresh skin is regenerated. During this time, the skin is very dry and feels like sandpaper before flaking and peeling off. Keep skin well moisturized to support the healing process.
  • The skin will be pink and dry up to 10 days after treatment.
  • If you experience excessive swelling or any of the following signs of infection, you should contact the office immediately.
    • Drainage – looks like pus
    • Increased warmth at or around the treated area after 48 hours
    • Fever of 101.5 of higher
    • Extreme itching or pain
  • Cleanse the skin two times a day with plain, lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Use your fingertips and a gentle patting motion. DO NOT rub, scrub, use an exfoliant or a skin care tool on the treated area.
  • Moisturizer should be applied generously over treated areas and reapplied when the skin feels dry.
  • Sunscreen is a MUST and should be used daily beginning the day of treatment and used consistently for up to three months post procedure. Use sunscreen with Broadband UVA and UVB protection and a SPF of 30. Reapply during sun exposure.
  • If an anti-viral was prescribed for cold sore prevention, continue to take as directed.
  • Make-up can typically be worn once the peeling process is complete.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat or cover treated areas for two months post treatment to avoid blistering, scarring, hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation.
  • When showering, avoid getting shampoo directly on the treated area.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating for a minimum of 24-48 hours or until skin has healed.
  • Avoid scratching and itching the skin, as scarring, infections and pigmentation complications can occur. Itching can be relieved by antihistamines such as Benadryl, Claritin, or Zyrtec.
