How Much Does PRP for Hair Loss Cost?

Hair loss can affect individuals of almost any age. The most common causes can affect men and women differently but can result in the classic receding hairline or overall thinning. PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is an effective way to restore healthy hair growth without surgery or medication side effects.

What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) for Hair Loss?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) takes advantage of the healing and growth factors contained in your blood. Platelets, which are produced within the bone marrow, circulate in your blood, ready to respond to any injury and begin the healing process. PRP uses a sample of your blood to collect your platelets. This PRP is then injected into your scalp to promote hair growth.

How Does PRP Work for Hair Loss?

PRP is produced by spinning your blood in a machine called a centrifuge that separates it into layers. The clear layer of plasma that contains most of the platelets is PRP. When injected into your scalp, it has several effects. First, it improves blood flow, bringing more nutrients and oxygen to the scalp. It also stimulates dormant hair follicles to reawaken and produce hair again. Follicles that have been producing thin or breakage-prone hairs will produce stronger, healthier hair.

How Much Does PRP for Hair Loss Cost?

Each person’s hair loss treatment is different. The cost of treatment depends on many factors, including:

  • Your provider’s skill and experience
  • Your location
  • The size of the treatment area
  • The number of treatments needed

Many people will have a series of three treatments within the first few months, followed by one treatment every six months. The average cost of the initial PRP series is $1,500 to $3,500. The cost of follow-up treatments will vary by provider. Your Twin Ports Dermatology expert will discuss your treatment plan and anticipated costs during your consultation.

What Results Will I See With PRP?

You can expect to see improved hair thickness and fullness three to six months after your first series of treatments. Results will continue to improve over the following months. Most people will benefit from maintenance sessions to keep their hair follicles active and healthy. Your hair will not only look thicker but will be healthier and more resistant to breakage. PRP can be safely used with almost all other hair restoration treatments.

Am I a Good Candidate for PRP?

Almost everyone is a good candidate for PRP. This treatment uses your own blood, almost eliminating the risk of a reaction to the injections. Some hair loss types respond better to PRP than others, and people with extensive or long-term hair loss may not respond as well. Good candidates should have reasonable expectations. Some people with certain clotting or other medical conditions may not be good candidates.
