How is PRP Prepared?

Our blood contains large numbers of powerful healing and growth factors. At Twin Ports Dermatology, we extract platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from your blood. This PRP stimulates hair regrowth and improves microneedling results.

What is PRP?

PRP concentrates the part of the blood full of healing factors and platelets. This restorative, rejuvenating treatment has many uses, including:

Since the treatment comes from your blood, the body can use it to stimulate cell growth, speed up healing, and trigger the body’s healing mechanisms.

How is PRP Prepared?

Your Twin Ports Dermatology provider will draw a sample of your blood and spin it in a centrifuge. This causes the blood to separate into layers, including a fluid layer called plasma containing platelets. This layer, PRP, can then be injected or applied to the skin. Platelets act as the body’s first responders to an area of injury and trigger growth in the surrounding tissues.

What is PRP Used For?

PRP offers a non-surgical and highly effective way to restore hair growth. It also improves the results of microneedling and minimizes your downtime by promoting fast healing.

PRP with Microneedling

Using needles, microneedling creates micro-channels a few millimeters into the skin. This triggers healing reactions in the surrounding skin cells, including more collagen production. Your skin care professional will then apply PRP to your skin. Results include faster healing, more collagen production, and smoother skin.

PRP for Hair Loss

When used to treat hair loss, PRP is injected into the scalp, focusing on the areas of thinning hair. Hair loss typically results when hair follicles go into a dormant state and no new growth occurs. When injected, PRP rejuvenates the scalp and promotes blood flow. It also awakens dormant follicles so they start growing hair again. PRP also stimulates existing follicles to grow thicker, healthier hair that resists breakage and looks fuller.

Am I a Good Candidate for PRP?

Since it uses only your blood, PRP is safe for almost everyone. If you have been experiencing hair thinning, you may make a good candidate for scalp treatments with PRP. If you plan to have microneedling treatments, adding PRP makes an excellent way to enhance your results.

Is There Any Downtime With PRP?

PRP actually decreases the downtime from microneedling by causing the micro-channels to heal faster than normal. As a result, redness and sensitivity will disappear much more quickly. If you have PRP injections in the scalp, the area may feel sore and swollen for a few days. This should not keep you from resuming your usual activities
