Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy for Hair Loss
Hair loss is a common concern, affecting an estimated 80 million Americans. It can affect men and women, young and old alike. Though there are several types and causes of hair loss, people most commonly experience general thinning, a receding hairline, or a widening part.
Twin Ports Dermatology offers effective hair restoration treatments to combat thinning and revive healthy hair. One of these treatments is mesotherapy.
Mesotherapy involves injecting treatment formulas into the middle layer of skin, the mesoderm. These formulas may include vitamins, minerals, hormones, prescription medications, and more, depending on the type of treatment. Hair restoration mesotherapy at Twin Ports Dermatology uses small injections of hair loss medications, such as minoxidil or dutasteride.
How Does Mesotherapy Work?
You may be familiar with minoxidil, often known by the brand name Rogaine®, for hair loss. Injecting a medication like minoxidil in mesotherapy makes it more effective than topical application and avoids the side effects of many oral medications. However, mesotherapy for hair loss can also be used in combination with oral and topical treatments for the best results.
During a mesotherapy treatment, your dermatologist will make several small injections throughout the scalp. These medication injections stimulate hair growth and nourish the hair
Am I a Good Candidate for Mesotherapy?
Patients must schedule a consultation at Twin Ports Dermatology before receiving mesotherapy for hair loss. During this consultation, your provider will evaluate your hair, review your medical condition and history, and discuss the treatment to determine if you are a good candidate for mesotherapy. Understanding the cause of your hair loss is essential for treating it.
If you have mild to moderate hair thinning, you may be a good candidate for mesotherapy. Your provider can discuss alternative treatment options with you, if necessary, such as PRP therapy. Keep in mind that mesotherapy or PRP may not be effective for some types and causes of hair loss. Patients who are pregnant, nursing, or have certain medical conditions should not have mesotherapy.
How Long Does a Mesotherapy Treatment Take?
Mesotherapy hair restoration is performed in a series of treatments. We typically recommend three monthly treatments followed by one every three months for the best results. Each mesotherapy appointment takes approximately 15 minutes, making it a fast, convenient treatment for even the busiest schedules.
What Results Will I See from Mesotherapy?
Most patients start to see results after their first three treatments, though some may take longer. You can expect to see reduced hair loss and improved hair growth. Mesotherapy can restore healthy, thick hair over time, minimizing a receding hairline or balding area. Once you reach your desired results, we recommend a maintenance treatment every six months to preserve your hair health in the long term.
Is There Any Downtime After Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy hair restoration requires no downtime and has minimal side effects. You may experience mild bruising, swelling, and tenderness on your scalp for a few days after the injections. We’ll advise you on how to care for your hair and scalp during this time.
