Biopsies
What is a Biopsy?
A biopsy is a procedure that takes a sample of a specific skin lesion and then examines that lesion in order to obtain a diagnosis. A biopsy is an important step in either diagnosing skin cancer or removing skin cancer as a root cause of that particular lesion.
A biopsy is a next step for individuals who may have noticed some changes to moles, skin lesions, or any other complexion marks. That’s why we recommend annual skin checks with a dermatology provider, as this is an excellent method for keeping track of your skin’s health.
Twin Ports Dermatology can offer assessment and biopsies for those patients who may be concerned about a mole or skin lesion.

Candidates for a Biopsy
The best candidates for a biopsy procedure are individuals who are concerned by the appearance of a skin lesion or changes to a lesion and need a diagnosis.
How Does It Work?
Results*
Recovery*
Recovery from a biopsy is minimal, as most patients are able to return to their normal routines right away. The biopsy area should be treated with Vaseline or Aquaphor for the first few days in order to avoid infection.
Patients should be aware that they may be left with a small scar after the biopsy procedure.
