Kayla is one of our Nurse Practitioners at Twin Ports Dermatology, recently celebrating her seventh year with us! Beginning her education with a two-year Registered Nurse degree at Hibbing Community College, Kayla continued to achieve her bachelors degree at Bemidji State University. Finally, Kayla earned her doctorate from the College of Saint Scholastica.
Kayla loves spending time with her family. She has three daughters who are eleven, five, and almost two years old! Her husband is an engineer, and they live on the Iron Range. She knew she always wanted to go into dermatology. The closest office was Twin Ports Dermatology in Duluth. We didn’t have an RN position open at the time, but Kayla took an LPN position because of her true passion for skin health. She has worked her way up to where she is now!

There are challenges in Kayla’s day-to-day basis in dermatology every day. She is constantly learning new things! When going to school for her doctorate, Kayla had two children and another on the way! This part of her life was challenging; she had to juggle her personal life, family, life, and career. However, Kayla says this was worth it!
Kayla does both medical and aesthetic medicine. On the aesthetic end, Kayla loves allowing women to see the beauty in themselves that so many people around them already see. Medically, it’s rewarding to diagnose skin cancer early on for someone and to treat it for them. Giving them better longevity of life and better outcomes is very rewarding!
Kayla previously worked for big hospitals. She says at Twin Ports Dermatology, no one is treated like a number like the other large corporations. This fact reflects in our patient care; people are happy to be here, enjoy their jobs, and are treated well. For Kayla, giving her patients her undivided attention is extremely important. Even on a day she is running behind, Kayla wants to give them her complete attention. Even if it makes her more behind, she wants to spend time with her patients so they get all the information they need and get treated thoroughly. Her goal is to treat her patients like they are her family members, giving them the care she would want her family to have! Giving her patients the time they deserve is very important to Kayla. So many people feel rushed when they are at the doctors, and she never wants them to feel this way when treating her patients.

Kayla is very excited about the opening of our new Hibbing location. The Iron Range has such a high demand for dermatology care, and she is thrilled to be able to provide that service to the Northland in this area.
