Frequently Asked Questions

GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) receptor agonists are a class of medications that mimic
a natural hormone in your body that regulates appetite and blood sugar. They help slow
gastric emptying, making you feel full longer and reducing total calorie intake.

Yes, you will meet with a weight loss specialist where your medical history, goals, and current medications will be reviewed.  A provider will then review your information and determine if you are a candidate for GLP therapy.

No. GLP-1 medications are not appropriate for every patient. Your provider will determine whether this is a safe and appropriate option for you.

Not necessarily. Some patients use medication as part of a shorter-term plan, while others may benefit from longer-term support or maintenance. Your plan should be individualized.

Meet Your Weight Loss Team

Heather Smith, PA-C & Jessica Kubat, LPN

At Twin Ports Dermatology & Med Spa, we believe that achieving optimal health requires a comprehensive approach. Our weight management program is led by Heather Smith, PA-C, a Dermatology Physician Assistant with over 17 years of clinical experience, alongside Jessica Kubat, LPN.

Heather’s interest in GLP-1 medications began years ago as she cared for patients with complex inflammatory skin conditions. Through her work, she recognized that successful treatment often extends beyond prescriptions alone and requires addressing lifestyle factors such as nutrition, exercise, metabolic health, and weight management. Rather than rushing to adopt new therapies, Heather has always taken a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to medicine, carefully following emerging treatments as research and long-term data become available.

Over the years, she closely monitored the evolution of GLP-1 medications and their growing body of evidence. After witnessing the profound impact these treatments have had on patients’ overall health and quality of life, she became passionate about making these therapies available to her patients.

Heather has completed advanced training and certification in weight management through the International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine (IAPAM) and is committed to helping patients achieve lasting success through individualized treatment plans that combine medication, nutrition, exercise, lifestyle modification, and ongoing support.

Recognizing that the best patient outcomes come from a team-based approach, Heather partnered with Jessica Kubat, LPN, who shares the same passion for helping patients improve their health through sustainable weight management. Jessica has completed the same advanced weight management certification training and brings years of nursing experience, compassion, and patient-centered care to the program.

Together, Heather and Jessica are dedicated to providing the education, guidance, accountability, and support needed to help you reach your goals and create lasting changes that improve your health, confidence, and overall well-being.
