What Not to Do After Botox®?

Fine lines and wrinkles are often the first signs that your skin has been affected by the aging process. Your facial expressions, such as frowning or smiling, put tension on your skin, creating wrinkles. Botox® smooths these lines by relaxing the muscles that cause them, giving you a refreshed, youthful appearance.

What is Botox® (Botulinum Toxin)?

Lines and wrinkles are no match for Botox®. This injectable treatment works using botulinum toxin, a compound that temporarily stops your facial muscles from pulling on your skin in targeted areas. As a result, the lines and wrinkles in that area disappear. While Botox® is the most widely known form of botulinum toxin, other brands include Dysport® and Daxxify®.

What Not to Do After Botox®

Botox® injections usually take about 15 minutes, and you are free to return to your daily activities immediately afterward. Although there is minimal downtime after these injections, many people experience minor bruising or swelling. Following these tips will help you reduce these effects and ensure your best results.

Avoid Rubbing Your Face

Botox® should be left undisturbed for the rest of the day after treatment to prevent it from moving around. While you can touch your face, avoid rubbing or putting pressure on it. You can wash your face and apply makeup as long as you do not use pressure.

Limit Strenuous Exercise

Going straight from Botox® injections to your workout routine can increase blood flow and raise your blood pressure, increasing the risk of bruising. To avoid this concern, we recommend waiting till the next day to go back to the gym.

Avoid NSAIDs and Alcohol

NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin or ibuprofen) can increase your risk of developing bruising if you take them shortly after your injections. Alcohol has a similar effect, so if you are concerned, avoid having any for the rest of the day.

How Long Does it Take To See Results After Botox®?

By the day after your session, the botulinum toxin has reached its destination and will not move around, and whatever bruising you see is all you can expect. You may start seeing results within a few days, but full effects can take up to fourteen days to develop. Once established, Botox® results last three to four months for most people.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

With decades of use as a medical and cosmetic treatment, Botox® is widely used and safe for most people. Good candidates want to address lines and wrinkles caused by facial expressions, and they should have realistic expectations. People with certain medical conditions or who are pregnant should not have Botox®.
