Dermal fillers work by adding volume to your facial features. Most dermal fillers only last as long as it takes for the body to remove the filler material. Sculptra® lasts longer because it stimulates collagen development. Even after Sculptra® has been cleared away, the collagen remains to keep your skin firmer and smoother.
When injected, Sculptra® begins instructing the skin to produce more collagen. It uses poly-L-lactic acid, a material approved for medical use for decades. The new collagen lifts and firms the facial features by tightening the skin’s support network of collagen fibers. It also adds volume and fullness, smoothing away lines and wrinkles.
Most dermal fillers last between six months and a year before the body clears them away. The body will clear away Sculptra®, but its collagen-building process will continue, and your results will keep improving. Sculptra® lasts up to two years, with some people reporting that it lasts even longer.

Because Sculptra® does not work like a typical dermal filler, you will need more than one treatment session to achieve the best results. Most people get two to three sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart. This timing maximizes your collagen development, so you see more visibly youthful results.
Results can take three to six months to develop as new collagen builds up. People looking for immediate volume in one visit have several options available, but few of them have the lifespan that Sculptra® offers. Sculptra® is not appropriate for all areas of the face, so your Twin Ports Dermatology skincare expert will recommend a filler that can give you the results you want.
Sculptra® is FDA approved for use as a dermal filler. Most people make good candidates for Sculptra®, especially those with lines and wrinkles caused by skin laxity. Ideal candidates for Sculptra® have reasonable expectations and a willingness to wait for their youthful-looking results to appear.
You will not have any downtime with Sculptra®. Most people have little to no bruising or swelling, and if you do it should fade within a day or two. Sculptra® is considered a “lunch break” procedure because many people go back to work immediately after treatment.
