How Long After Microneedling Can I Wear Makeup?

Are you ready for a treatment that firms and smooths your skin while restoring a youthful glow? Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, boosts the activity of cells in your skin that produce collagen. This effective treatment leaves skin of all types and tones even and radiant, with improved texture and fewer signs of aging, making microneedling a popular anti-aging option even when compared to lasers.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a way of stimulating collagen production in the dermis, the deeper layers of skin. Collagen is lost as we age, and fibroblast cells in the dermis produce less of it. Microneedling stimulates these cells to produce more collagen, boosting the skin’s strength and firmness. It also uses the power of your skin’s natural healing responses to bring new skin cells to the surface.

How Does Microneedling Work?

At Twin Ports Dermatology, we use SkinPen for microneedling. This precise handheld device allows us to customize your treatment to your needs and target areas of special concern with greater focus. The needles create tiny microchannels in the skin that reach into the dermis. Your skin reacts as it would to an injury, flooding the area with healing factors and increasing collagen production to repair the tiny areas of damage.

How Long After Microneedling Can I Wear Makeup?

When you leave your microneedling appointment, your skin might look red and feel slightly swollen. These effects usually fade within a day or two. However, your skin needs a few more days to heal completely. We will provide you with microneedling aftercare instructions, including:

  • Avoid wearing makeup for three days since it can contain bacteria or irritants
  • Use only a fragrance-free, gentle cleanser such as our Gentle Foaming Cleanser as often as instructed
  • Do not apply irritating products such as chemical peels, retinoids, or salicylic acid
  • Apply a rich, protective, unscented lotion as needed for the first day or two
  • Stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen consistently
  • Wait two to three days to resume strenuous physical activity if sweat irritates your skin
  • Limit how much you touch your skin, and only touch it with freshly washed hands

The few days after microneedling are the best time for your skin to absorb beneficial products. Your Juvanew Medspa team can help you choose medical-grade skincare products, such as our Age-Defying Kit, targeted to your unique skin concerns. We recommend only using approved products for at least the first three days after microneedling before resuming your usual skincare routine.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?

Unlike many lasers, microneedling with SkinPen is safe for all skin types and tones. Good candidates for microneedling have reasonable expectations and are in good health. Treatment is suitable for most adults, but you may not be a good candidate if you have certain health problems or a tendency to form abnormal scars.
