Laser tattoo removal works by using laser energy to shatter molecules of tattoo ink. The Picoway® laser breaks down ink colors that most other lasers struggle with. This helps us make sure we remove as much of your tattoo as possible.
People considering tattoo removal should understand that the removal process will probably require multiple sessions over several months. They should also understand that tattoo removal might never erase every trace of the tattoo, although it will fade to almost unnoticeable.
Laser tattoo removal with the Picoway® laser uses picosecond (trillionth of a second) pulses. This causes a photoacoustic effect that breaks apart pigment molecules without creating heat in the skin. The lack of heat reduces any injury to the skin while still allowing the energy to break up pigment molecules.
The shapes of ink molecules differ, and some colors take longer to remove than others. Black, green, and blue disappear more quickly than brighter colors. These colors will fade fastest, so an all-black tattoo will take less time to remove than a brightly colored one of similar size.
Laser tattoo removal is considered the most effective method of removing unwanted tattoos. While a large, colorful tattoo may take more than a few treatments to remove, once a tattoo has been removed, it will not come back.
While the Picoway® laser works as effectively as any tattoo removal procedure available, even it cannot guarantee the complete and total removal of every tattoo. Some tattoos may leave traces behind, although they will fade enough to become unnoticeable.

Your skin may feel somewhat sore, and it may look red or start to blister. This will go away in a few days. You can return to your regular routine but should avoid any injury to the treated area. Follow your provider’s instructions on how to take care of the area.
If you have a tattoo you want to remove, you may be a good candidate. People who have active skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis may not be good candidates. People with darker skin should consult with our specialists to determine if they are eligible.
The average session for laser tattoo removal with Picoway® lasts from 30-45 minutes. You will see some fading after the first session, but your tattoo may require anywhere from two sessions to twelve or more. You must wait two months between treatments to allow the skin to heal.
