Botox vs. Dysport: What’s the Difference?

There are plenty of anti-aging injectables out there that promise to fade away wrinkles and smooth lines.

Two of the most popular injectable choices include Botox and Dysport, both of which promise to treat frown wrinkles and lines with botulinum toxin. Both treatments deliver similar results, and can cost the same at Twin Ports Dermatology.

So when it comes down to it, what’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?

As it turns out, there are a few important differentiators that could make all the difference in the treatment you choose. Let’s take a closer look:

*Individual results may vary

Dysport VS Botox

Botox and Dysport are made of Botulinum Toxin, which is a purified protein.

Both treatments are FDA-approved. These injectables are incredibly safe and come with minimal to no side effects.

Although Botox and Dysport are made of the same purified protein, when it comes to diffusion rates, Dysport works a little differently to Botox. Dysport tends to diffuse in an outward direction, meaning that it can spread to more areas than Botox. For this reason, Dysport may be a better choice for clients who have lines that extend further out (like around the eyes and forehead).

Furthermore, Dysport has been known to kick in faster than Botox, with results sometimes evident within 2 days. This is important to note because if you have an event coming up shortly, you may lean towards Dysport in order to get your results faster.  Full results can be seen with both injectables by week 2 and are FDA-approved to last approximately 3 to 4 months.

Results Can Vary Depending on the Neurotoxin Chosen

Results with injectables are highly individualized. One person may get their best results with Dysport, while others adhere better with Botox. In addition to this, Dysport results can last anywhere between three to four months, while some patients may see their Botox results last up to six months.
